02/27/2014 - interface WIP:
Uhh... more than a year has passed since the last update. Anyway, this image shows several new things at once:
- New UI style. Does not draw as much attention to itselft and is more flexible and easier to reproduce.
- Upper right: status panel - access to character panel and your staff members.
- On the very right: new fleet view. A lot less screen space. Ship inventory sizes have been cut to half.
- Center: trade panel.
- Couldn't resist and experimented with some hard shadows.
What is still missing are some nice glows & gradients. But it is a lot easier to do it consistently at a later point.
02/21/2013 - interface, new shiptypes, fighters wings:
What you can see below are left the 'Fleet Register', basically the inventory, and mid, the travel screen.
Keep in mind these images depict real work-in-progress stuff.
I am putting those up here anyway, because I usually find that UI screenshots help a lot more than a thousand words in order to create an impression of the gameplay.
The image on the right shows an Iridiani task force including a complement of fighter wings and dropships.
02/19/2013 - new planets:
Four non-solar worlds:
Near Jupiter:
Two fleets clashing. I had made the AI a little more reckless here while I was testing the damage system:
Close-ups showing the effect of the visual damage systems:
It took some experiments to come up with something, that works without any special mesh preparation and yields always good to acceptable results.
Which is both great for me or anybody else who ever creates a ship class for this game.
I guess it needs a bit more of debris floating around, however.
The first space station set:
I just used the default armor plate material on everything. The last pic is mockup with some lights painted in and a bit of coloration. In case you worry, there will also be station types too that look a bit more shiny.
Regarding the planets: they are currently mapped with a texture done in 15 minutes. This is actually one the few situations were I believe that replacing the placeholder later has little risk of turning everything upside down. So it is okay for now. But these are definitely going to look a lot nicer at some time.
